Annual State level Flower Show

RIHC bags 10 prizes in the Annual State level Flower Show

In the National Flower Exhibition and Annual State Level Flower Show-2009 organised by Plant Lover’s Association and Regional Plant Resource Centre, Bhubaneswar supported by National Horticulture Board, held on 10th and 11th January 2009, RIHC bagged 10 Prizes in various events of the Show. First Prizes were won in Bonsai, Cut Flowers in the Anthurium spike, Zinia bloom category, second prizes in the Potted Foliage Plants like Aglaonema , Palm and Fern Category. Ranjita Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology(RIHC) was awarded the Merit Prize for Flower Arrangements in the “Basket of flowers” for an occasion category where the judges adjudged it the favourite exhibit of the show. The Final Year Students Debabrata Behura, Ruthambara Satpathy and Sarmistha Mishra of the Four Years Bachelors Degree in Hotel Management and Catering Technology, a part of the creative team of RIHC  were the brains behind the concept of the Award winning Flower Arrangement.

The aim and object of this show was to develop competition spirit and improve aesthetic sense. Side by side it was expected that new varieties would be in view for the general public for appreciation. The National Flower Exhibition was a huge crowd puller and crowds thronged Ekamra Kanan Botanic Garden spread over 110 acres with sprawling lawns ,trees and flower beds and a garden lake a protected wetland visited by migratory birds in winter. The large collection of plants both of aesthetic and conservation significance maintained in the garden attracts nature lovers and conservationists from far and wide.

Regional Plant Resource Centre(RPRC) has gained the distinction of a major centre for conservation of plant biodiversity. Supply of authentic nursery stock to universities, research institutes, and other agencies for research and development is the most important objective of the centre. The awards of the Flower Show were given away by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Mr.Suresh Mohanty and the Chief Executive(RPRC) Mr.A.K.Mohapatra who declared 9th and 10th of January 2010 as the dates for the next National flower Exhibit.
